Integrity, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect and Enthusiasm. This key role is a buyer for parts made within II-VI (primarily in Asia) that feed optics production in our Saxonburg, PA facility.

As a Buyer you will be responsible for purchasing components to fulfill customer open orders, as well as purchasing optics that will be further processed in Saxonburg. Processing of customer orders and internal demand will comprise much of your time. Developing a good working relationship with the planning team in Asia in order to better serve II-VI customers is a must. You will be required to make purchasing decisions based on forecasts, order quantities, current stock levels and locations in order to ensure an adequate supply of parts to both internal and external customers. You will work very closely with the Saxonburg planning team to coordinate the arrival of purchased goods and will be responsible for working with the planners in Asia to prioritize, improve, or reschedule deliveries as needed.

You will be one of the primary points of contact for questions from our Sales and Product Management teams with regards to internally purchased parts and will be called upon to balance their needs and requests. Given the unique insights of this position, you will also be involved in updating and reevaluating forecasts on certain part numbers, this information is a key to our Asia operations team.

Communication and teamwork with both sales and the production departments is key to success. Troubleshooting issues whether they be process based or communication based, is an integral part of the job. This position serves as the key link for the internal movement of manufactured optics that enables II-VI to serve our customers. As such, you will be in a strong position to drive continuous improvement and work with those across the organization to be more efficient and serve our customers with excellence.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage purchase requisitions and issue POs to vendors based on demand in SAP
  • Review and confirm customer orders for parts that are purchased
  • Review and act on internally generated purchase requisitions
  • Prioritize part deliveries with the Asia planning team depending on demand
  • Give feedback and support to Sales and Product Managers on specific part inventory levels and expected deliveries
  • Engage in any additional related efforts to improve and advance the business
  • Review/update forecasted consumption as necessary
  • Maintain a weekly lead time report for both our Asia operations and Saxonburg manufacturing site
  • Provide reporting on metrics within your control, as needed


Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3+ years of buying/purchasing experience required
  • Experience using an ERP system required
  • Experience with Microsoft Office required (emphasis on Excel and Word)
  • Experience using SAP for planning and/or buying is a major plus

Working Conditions
  • Majority of work is computer based, sitting/standing
  • Some walking of the manufacturing floor as needed
  • Partial remote work is an option

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit or stand for a full day
