Job Description

Location: Thomasville, GA is strongly preferred, but will consider candidates that are seeking remote opportunities. Full relocation to the Thomasville, GA area will be provided.

Job Summary:

The VP of Sourcing responsible for developing and leading the sourcing organization, strategies, practices and processes in a collaborative and multi-functional matrix environment to achieve both tactical and strategic goals. This position serves as an expert in influencing, leading and driving execution of sourcing and logistics related projects in support of the overall Operations strategy and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Works closely with site leaders to develop business plans, budgets and staffing requirements to support Operations strategy plan.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for developing the strategic direction for all raw materials and purchased components.
  • Monitor key spending trends, cost drivers, and market factors for key commodities and develop countermeasures and improvement strategies to proactively address.
  • Develop and implement strategy for supplier competitive analysis, performance metrics, research techniques, sourcing strategies, risk mitigation and contract management.
  • Manage all facets of procurement activities including vendor evaluations, site audits and continuous improvement processes for suppliers and drive standardization of these activities across all manufacturing facilities.
  • Locate, analyze, develop and maintain a consolidated supply base to meet current and future needs of all purchased material and services.
  • Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the procurement process, utilizing problem solving tools and Lean concepts to meet or exceed year-over-year cost-out targets for direct/indirect materials, logistics, and outside services spend.
  • Ensure purchase orders, contracts, and supply agreements conform to Company policy and fully support overall Company working capital and cash flow objectives.
  • Manage freight and transportation spend and develop strategies to improve; drive year-over-year cost reductions.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and international trade compliance laws and regulations.
  • Work closely with site procurement teams to identify and execute cost savings projects, improve local team functional proficiency, and standardize policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with cross-functional peers in design engineering, sales, product management and R&D programs to support local and Company-wide business initiatives.
  • Coordinate development of long- and short-range business plans with corporate operations staff, including annual budgets and strategic plans.
  • May have direct contact with customers and suppliers as required.
  • Must have the ability to travel (by air and/or motor vehicle) up to 50%, in conducting position responsibilities and Company business.
  • Apply intellect, creativity, adaptability, judgment, and management skills to achieve required results.
  • Ensure duties and company projects are accomplished in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Support peers and management with internal and external projects.
  • Adhere to company policies.
  • Other duties and functions as may be needed to support operations.


Personal Competencies Include:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of advanced principles, concepts and practices in strategic supplier management, global sourcing, and logistics management.
  • Strong analytical skills including benchmarking, data collection and trend analysis.
  • Strong negotiating skills and ability to develop successful relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Preferred category knowledge/content expertise in the following areas: metals (aluminum, steel, stainless steel), valves, actuators, electrical components, and fabricated parts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams to quickly analyze problems and develop effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in coaching and mentoring leaders and teams in the use and application of continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing continuous improvement methodology to drive year-over-year cost reductions.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; proficiency in use of MRP systems (IFS preferred) and knowledge of MRP work flow.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with, and maintain effective relationships with, all functional departments and employees in a team-oriented environment.

  • Well organized, dependable, punctual, strong work ethic with exceptional integrity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Education: Bachelor's degree required (technical discipline preferred); MBA preferred; formal training in continuous improvement discipline (i.e. Lean or Six Sigma) and sourcing/procurement certification (CPM/CPIM) preferred.

Experience:Eight plus years' experience in manufacturing sourcing and procurement operations, including 3+ years of global commodities sourcing experience, required; direct commodities management experience required.

Travel: Domestic and International travel required at times (30% - 50%).

Physical Skill and Effort: Limited manual dexterity required. Work requires infrequent physical effort.

Working Conditions and Hazards: Exposure to hazards typically encountered in manufacturing plant, field, or office conditions.
